Putin Warns of Nuclear Weapons Use: Tensions Escalate Amid Election.

In a recent statement, President Vladimir Putin underscored Russia's readiness to resort to nuclear weapons if its sovereignty is threatened. This declaration comes amidst escalating tensions between Russia and the West, just days ahead of Russia's upcoming presidential election, where Putin is expected to secure another term.

Putin's rhetoric regarding the use of nuclear weapons has been consistent since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. His latest warning, delivered in a state-of-the-nation address, cautioned against deepening Western involvement in the conflict, highlighting the risk of a nuclear war.

When questioned about the possibility of using battlefield nuclear weapons in Ukraine, Putin asserted that such action has not been necessary thus far. However, he emphasized Russia's preparedness to utilize all means to safeguard its interests, including nuclear deterrence.

The Russian leader's remarks serve as a clear message to Western nations, signaling his determination to protect Russian gains in Ukraine. He reiterated Russia's security doctrine, affirming the willingness to employ nuclear weapons in defense of the nation's sovereignty and independence.

Furthermore, Putin warned countries that have refrained from establishing red lines regarding Russia, cautioning that Russia would not hesitate to reciprocate. This statement reflects growing tensions between Russia and NATO allies supporting Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Lithuania's foreign minister expressed concerns over self-imposed red lines limiting Western responses to Russian aggression. French President Emmanuel Macron's acknowledgment of the possibility of Western troop deployment to Ukraine has further underscored the gravity of the situation.

Putin's remarks coincided with a surge in Ukrainian drone attacks within Russian territory, aimed at disrupting Russia's upcoming presidential election. The attacks, including a strike on an oil refinery in Ryazan, have heightened tensions between the two nations.

In response, Russian air defenses intercepted 58 drones across multiple regions. Despite these countermeasures, Ukrainian forces reported additional Russian attacks, resulting in casualties and widespread destruction.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the Russian aggression, emphasizing the daily toll inflicted upon Ukrainian civilians. The recent escalation has led to a rising death toll and significant damage to infrastructure, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

As tensions continue to mount between Russia and Ukraine, the international community remains on edge, apprehensive of the potential consequences of further escalation. Putin's warning of nuclear weapons use underscores the gravity of the situation, highlighting the urgent need for diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent further violence.
