Narendra Modi Congratulates Shehbaz Sharif on Second Term as Pakistan Prime Minister.


Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended congratulations to newly-elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday, a day after Sharif took the oath for his second term in office.

“Congratulations to Shehbaz Sharif on taking the oath as the prime minister of Pakistan,” said Modi in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Prime Minister Shehbaz assumed office on Monday in a simple yet impressive ceremony at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, attended by high-ranking military officials, government officials, and senior politicians from the ruling coalition parties and other dignitaries.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz after his oath-taking ceremony. Stephane Dujarric, the UN Chief’s spokesperson, stated that the UN looks forward to continuing cooperation with Pakistan on various issues.

Numerous world leaders and countries, including Saudi Arabia, China, Turkey, the United States, the UK, Malaysia, and others, congratulated Shehbaz on his election as prime minister and expressed willingness to collaborate with his government.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman conveyed his felicitations to the new Pakistani prime minister through a cable message, wishing Shehbaz success and the people of Pakistan steady progress and prosperity.

US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome also offered congratulations to the newly elected PM on social media platform X, expressing his country’s readiness to work closely with the new government and the people of Pakistan on mutual interests.

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon emphasized enhancing and expanding long-term bilateral partnership through joint efforts between the two countries. He highlighted the strong friendship, mutual understanding, respect, and trust between Tajikistan and Pakistan.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim were among the first world leaders to congratulate Shehbaz on his election victory. The Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas also sent a message of congratulations, emphasizing the historical and strong bond between Palestine and Pakistan and Pakistan’s support for the rights and justice of the Palestinian people.

Shehbaz expressed Pakistan’s desire to strengthen trade and diplomatic relations with Malaysia and invited the Malaysian prime minister to visit Pakistan.
